Remembering the Dream: Building Hope in Our Community
January, 2005

DC Habitat for Humanity held a week long 'Remembering the Dream: Building Hope in Our Community' volunteer program commemorating the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Over the course of the week, centered around Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, volunteers from many walks of life joined together in building homes for low income working families on our 53 home site in Northeast Washington, DC.

Students from Georgetown, American, and Howard Universities (above) began the week long effort.

Volunteers included local university students, parishioners from various congregations, DC Habitat staff and board members, as well as members of the community at large.

Members of AmeriCorps (right) helped lead the volunteers.

Volunteers braved the cold weather on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (below) to help build a new home.

Every volunteer gave generously of their time to help make the commemoration a fulfilling and rewarding experience for all involved.
