Individual Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to volunteer your time to the work of DC Habitat – and each is important to the success of our organization.

Ways to Volunteer

We build homes and we want your help! DC Habitat’s construction crew utilizes volunteers each Wednesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., year-round. Though we schedule team build groups to volunteer on a majority of these workdays, we try to reserve Saturdays throughout the year specifically for individual volunteers. Additionally, we schedule individuals on other days as space is available. We welcome your participation whether you are an experienced builder or you don’t know a sixteen-penny nail from a spackling knife!

NOTE: Volunteers should only report to the construction site when they have received confirmation from DC Habitat staff (phone or email) that they are scheduled for the given date.

Office Volunteers

DC Habitat always needs volunteers who are willing to assist with administrative tasks in our office, such as helping with mailings, database updates and other organizational support.

Volunteer Committees

If you’re not really the hammer and nails type, consider joining one of our other volunteer groups: the Family Support Committee and the Environmental & Building Performance Committee.

Nuts & Bolts Orientation

Individuals who wish to volunteer with DC Habitat in any capacity are asked to complete a simple orientation process – called “Nuts & Bolts” — right here online. It consists of a presentation, short quiz and a new volunteer survey, and it takes about 25-30 minutes altogether.

Once you’ve completed this orientation, we’ll give you the information you need to sign-up and start volunteering right away.
