Volunteer Josue Lopez Calderon.

Name: Josue Lopez Calderon

Occupation: New Business Development Specialist at the Treasury Department Recreation Association; Member of the National Press Club

Involvement with Habitat: Josue is a first-time volunteer with DC Habitat, and hopes to continue involvement in the future. He spent the day volunteering as a guest of the DC Rotary Club, a group that regularly volunteers with us. “Last night, I met a Rotarian, and so I asked about any volunteer projects they had… and they said they were doing Habitat for Humanity tomorrow,” Josue recounts.

Today’s work: Building windows and a sample wall for a passive house project.

When not volunteering, Josue likes to: advocate for small businesses and write on his blog, josuelopezcalderon.com. He is also passionate about philanthropy. “I believe that together we can make our country and the world a better place for current and future generations to enjoy,” Josue writes. Josue is also a U.S. Department of State Gilman Alumni Ambassador and likes to encourage college students to study abroad with the Gilman and Fulbright scholarships.

DC Habitat believes that everyone deserves a house they want to call home. That's why we work to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the nation's capital by building (and rehabilitating) affordable, energy- and resource-efficient homes for people in need.
