Home Ownership
Some of the most important people associated with DC Habitat are the families who live in the homes we build. Since the affiliate was founded in 1989 over 300 people have moved into DC Habitat homes.
These homes are sold, not given, to approved homeowner applicants. Homeowners pay low, no-interest monthly mortgage payments toward the full ownership of their homes. Moving into and owning a DC Habitat home improves the quality of life for its residents, not only in the physical surroundings but also by instilling a sense of pride and responsibility that comes with home ownership.
