On February 9, 2008, DC Habitat for Humanity celebrated a landmark in the organization's history:  we dedicated our 100th home. Donations from more than 300 people and the work of hundreds of volunteers went into the making of our 100th house.  Among the packed audience of friends, family members, donors and volunteers joining us for the event were the founders of the DC Habitat affiliate, Perry and Elysia Bush and Clark Olsen.  Board members from throughout DC Habitat's 20-years rounded out the list of Habitat "family" who came from around the country for the celebration.

On hand for the big build-up to the 100th house were the sponsors of the 99th house, dedicated immediately prior to the 100th.  Jamie Foroughi, Director of Community Relations at Citibank presented a check for $50,000 to pledge the company's continued support for DC Habitat homes in the 53-home community currently under construction.  This is Citi's third sponsorship.  Bruce Reed, Vice President of Franchising for Fairfield Inns by Marriott represented the Marriott companies and the J. W. and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, who also sponsored the home.  Marriott announced it will sponsor it's fifth home with DC Habitat.  Barbara Carroll felt particularly lucky to have Fairfield Inns by Marriott as a sponsor because the company donated a suite of furniture including bed, dresser, end tables, desk, sofa and chairs as part of their sponsorship.

The two homes dedicated February 9th are part of a 53-home community DC Habitat is building in Northeast Washington.  Habitat homes are built by volunteers to help keep them affordable.  The average DC Habitat homeowner makes less than 30% of the area median income.  Habitat homes are sold on a zero-interest, no-profit, 25-year mortgage financed by DC Habitat.

Have a Heart
For Families in Need, Winter Can Seem Endless

heart
Heat that does not work.  Broken windows.  Drafty doors.

Substandard housing takes its toll on health and education as well as living conditions.

Thousands of children are condemned to living in unsafe, unhealthy and overcrowded housing because there is simply not enough decent affordable housing available in our area.

With your help, DC Habitat is changing that.  Your donations help us buy the construction materials we need to build affordable, energy-efficient homes for people in need.

Will you help?
