Meet Becky McGeehan - D.C. Habitat Volunteer

Becky McGeehan has volunteered as a crew leader at D.C. Habitat’s Northeast Parcel since the beginning of 2009. A long-time resident of Washington, she studied at Catholic and American Universities and now works as a term assistant professor of English at George Mason University in Northern Virginia.
Becky was introduced to Habitat for Humanity in college, when a good friend asked her to volunteer as a driver for the campus chapter’s spring break trip to HFHI headquarters in Americus, Georgia.
“I could tell the people I was working with there believed in what they were doing and were committed for life,” said Becky. “It was fun to learn alongside such a diverse group – people of all ages and backgrounds.”
After college, Becky went to work for Habitat for Humanity of Denver, Colorado as an AmeriCorps volunteer. Then she continued to serve the organization after returning to DC.
Though Becky chose to take time off from construction work during her pregnancy in late 2009, she continued to volunteer on administrative projects in D.C. Habitat’s main office.
“Both the staff and homeowners at DC Habitat are positive and supportive, which is rare in this economy,” said Becky. “They all work very well together and it feels like a real community.”
