Planned Giving Programs
One practical way to make a significant gift to DC Habitat is through an estate plan — by means of a will, living trust, or beneficiary designation on a life insurance policy or retirement account. Gifts of this nature are wholly recoverable while you are alive and may save significant taxes for your estate.
Unlike a cash gift, a planned gift is typically made from assets in your estate rather than disposable income, and comes to fruition after your lifetime. It is a common misconception that making a planned gift is only for the wealthy; but the truth is, even people of modest means can makes a big difference.
A planned gift can be simple to make and cost very little. The most common way to make a planned gift is to name DC Habitat as a beneficiary in an IRA, life insurance policy, other financial account or in your will. Every gift — no matter the size — helps DC Habitat continue to provide affordable housing to those in need.
If you would like more information about a particular planned giving option, we encourage you to speak to your attorney or financial planner, and to contact our staff. If you have intentions of making a planned gift, have already done so, or have questions, please contact the Director of Development and Marketing by phone at (202) 882-4600 x233, or by email at Maria.Mastorakos@dchabitat.org.
