The Family
Partnership Committee pairs DC Habitat volunteers with homeowner candidates. The volunteers,
or partners, serve as the link between the candidates and the Habitat
office. Partners answer questions and provide support in preparation
for the homeownership process. Many partners work on site with their
homeowner family, helping earn sweat equity hours. Family Partners
are asked to maintain a relationship with the homeowner candidate
for at least a year after the home is completed. Family Partnership
works in conjunction with the Family Selection Committee and meets
as needed.
"My
partner and I had a great experience as her house grew around us.
Moving-in day was a truly fulfilling experience for me, as I saw
how happy she and her kids were with what we all had done together.
I'll be keeping in touch with her for a couple of more months, and
then I intend to look for another partner. It's a great experience."
