Putting
Faith Into Action
Habitat for
Humanity practices the "Theology of the Hammer". By building
simple, decent homes with God's people in need, we put our faith
in God and love of our neighbors into action.
The Theology
of the Hammer is an idea coined by the co-founder of Habitat for
Humanity, Millard Fuller. Habitat for Humanity dramatically uses
the image of the hammer to place on the hearts of people everywhere
the idea that substandard housing is socially, politically and religiously
unacceptable. We must put faith and love into action. Faith communities
see their ministry come alive when they reach out to help others
in the nation's capital.
This
theology is also about bringing together a diverse group of people
from all faiths to build affordable homes and establish viable communities.
It is about acknowledging our differences: political, religious,
philosophical, theological and cultural, while finding common ground
in using a hammer to manifest God's love.
