We Offer a Hand Up, Not a Hand Out
The most important people associated with Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. are the families who live in the houses we build. Since the affiliate was founded in 1988, more than 300 people have moved into our homes.
These homes are sold, not given, to approved homeowner applicants. Homeowners pay low monthly mortgage payments toward the full ownership of their homes, which are built and sold at below market value. Moving into and owning a DC Habitat home improves the quality of life for its residents, not only in their physical surroundings, but also by instilling a sense of pride and responsibility which comes with home ownership.
