AmeriCorps & VISTA Members 2013-2014
Brigid Barrett / National Direct member – Construction Crew Leader
A Florida native, Brigid served as the AmeriCorps volunteer service coordinator at “Habijax”, the Habitat affiliate in Jacksonville, FL. Prior to her AmeriCorps year, Brigid was a hospice volunteer at a program in Lima, Peru, and then worked at a hospital in Florida, scheduling clinical diagnostic procedures. To relieve stress and have fun, Brigid runs and even participates in a few marathons and half marathons with her mother as a bonding experience.
Andrew Hess / National Direct member – Construction Crew Leader
A native of Texas, Andrew has been part of many mission trips to help build homes in places like Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. Construction has long been a passion of his and his dedication to Habitat for Humanity is now in its third year.
Brittany Jezouit / VISTA member – Corporate Sponsorships + Resource Development
Brittany is a recent graduate of the College of William and Mary. She spent much of her collegiate experience using her marketing skills in campus organizations and internships. In her current position as the Resource Development VISTA for DC Habitat, Brittany works on all aspects of corporate sponsorship, and is also involved in the marketing and outreach campaigns.
Kiersten Kelley / National Direct Member – Construction Crew Leader (Second Year)
Kiersten is a returning member this year and she has become quite a builder! Originally from Long Island, Kiersten came to DC last year after living in San Jose, CA, volunteering at the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center. While her passion may be books, she has a great knack for teaching volunteers new skills and working on the construction site.
Tyler Joseph Kempf / National Direct Member – Construction Crew Leader
Tyler is a numbers guy. With his background as an actuarial analyst, he is used to explaining intricate ideas to people. He has gone on four different home building trips and led one at a Habitat affiliate in Louisiana. In Ohio, where Tyler attended Bowling Green State University, he also volunteered with the American Red Cross as an overnight volunteer that helped assist displaced families.
Matthew Mullane / National Direct Member – Construction Crew Leader
Matthew graduated with a Spanish Language degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. He utilized his Spanish speaking skills when he volunteered with the Michigan Legal Services law firm in order to translate for homeowners facing foreclosure notices, and while teaching English to working adults in Antigua, Guatemala last summer. He also has a passion for sailing and maintaining sailboats.
Bryce Poeter / National Direct Member – Volunteer Coordinator
Bryce is the Volunteer Coordinator at DC Habitat, and he works with individual volunteers and university chapters to coordinate build days and other volunteering. He got his start with Habitat volunteering throughout high school in Houston, Texas, and after a stint studying Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago, he is back with the organization.
Kelley Renard / National Direct member – Family Services Coordinator
Kelley is originally from Augusta, Georgia, but attended Ohio State, where she received a BA in psychology. She has also begun her graduate work in Nonprofit Management through Northeastern University. Last summer, she served as a summer AmeriCorps VISTA with Homeport Ohio, planning fun, educational activities for a summer camp program, and leading children in those activities. She also interned with a regional Make-A-Wish Foundation in the volunteer services department, helping to register, schedule and inform volunteers. She enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors and is excited to be in the DC area.
Mary Romeo / National Direct member – Construction Crew Leader
Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Mary graduated in December 2012 from Texas A&M with a degree in Construction Management. As part of her studies, she interned with Skanska USA and American Constructors, focusing on commercial construction. She previously spent time with Habitat for Humanity by participating in the Collegiate Challenge in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
