Homes provide more than shelter.

Learn how DC Habitat helps change lives.

Having a house to call home makes a big difference in the lives of the families we serve. A decent, affordable home provides more than shelter — it offers greater stability for children, added physical security, increased educational and employment prospects, health and safety benefits, and the opportunity for families to be more engaged in the community.

Meet a few of our homeowner families

Since 1988, we’ve helped more than 200 Washington families become Habitat homeowners. Each of them has contributed their own sweat equity to the completion of their new or rehabilitated homes. Learn about some of these families here.

Meet a few of our volunteers

We rely on the hard work of our volunteers for the construction of our homes. We build year-round, and we have volunteers on-site from Wednesday to Saturday each week. Read more about a few of our volunteers below.
